Assessments
Anthropometric and Body Composition Evaluations
What is it?
This involves the physical assessment of all athletes, including measurements of weight, height, circumferences, and skinfolds. These parameters allow for the determination of body fat percentage, lean mass, muscle circumferences, BMI, among others. It also includes the creation of a report with result interpretations for the coaching staff (collective) and/or the athlete (individual).
Duration
15 minutes per athlete
Equipment Used (provided by Nutriwin)
Stadiometer, scale, anthropometric bench, measuring tape, caliper
Advantages
Provides objective data that contribute to the physical characterization of athletes. Enables the establishment of individual goals based on body composition criteria and guides or evaluates the results of potential individualized nutritional interventions.
---------------
Hydration - Assessment of Hydration Losses
What is it?
Involves weighing athletes before and after a training session and/or competition.
Duration
1 minute per athlete
Equipment Used (provided by Nutriwin)
Scale
Advantages
Provides objective data that characterize hydration losses, i.e., dehydration occurring during a training session and/or game. Contributes to educating athletes about the importance of hydration.
---------------
Hydration - Assessment of Hydration Status
What is it?
Involves evaluating urine density using a refractometer. Typically assesses the first morning urine or urine produced before training.
Equipment Used (provided by Nutriwin)
Refractometer, urine cups, disposable gloves
Advantages
Characterizes individual and collective hydration status (e.g., percentage of dehydrated athletes). Can complement the assessment of hydration losses → if an athlete starts training/game already dehydrated, the consequences of dehydration on performance are exacerbated.
Nutritional Education
Lectures & Workshops
What is it?
Presentations/workshops delivered to the team on various sports nutrition subtopics with practical relevance to the sport. Practical approach and language, always evidence-based. Examples of topics: Hydration; Peri-training/game nutrition; Injury prevention; Supplementation; Weight loss strategies; Strategies for muscle hypertrophy; etc.
Duration
30-45 minutes + 15 minutes Q&A per session (flexibility for shorter sessions).
Equipment Used (provided by Nutriwin)
Online: videoconferencing software
In-person: slide projector
Advantages
Enhances athletes' food and nutritional literacy — there is a scientifically established association between nutrition knowledge and eating behaviors in elite athletes. Better eating behaviors, in turn, enhance performance and contribute to injury prevention.
---------------
Educational Materials
What is it?
Posters, infographics, and videos summarizing practical information and/or recommendations directly relevant to athletes. Digital format: dissemination via social media (e.g., WhatsApp group). Physical format: posting in key areas of the club (e.g., dining hall, medical station, etc.).
Advantages
Enhances athletes' food and nutritional literacy — there is a scientifically established association between nutrition knowledge and eating behaviors in elite players. Summarizes and reinforces topics covered in lectures. Communication adapted to the new generations Y (millennials) and Z.
---------------
Basic Meal Plan
What is it?
A generic meal plan tailored to the sport, gender, weight category, and specific training/competition logistics.
It provides a basic daily meal structure based on the athlete’s daily context (training, rest day, competition).
This does not replace an individualized meal plan (which is ideal) and assumes the athlete is healthy, without food allergies or intolerances.
Advantages
Provides collective guidance in situations where individual nutritional follow-up is not financially feasible.
---------------
Individualized Follow-Up
What is it?
A detailed assessment of the athlete’s medical, sports, and nutritional history.
Collection of body composition data (if not already gathered during a team evaluation).
Personalized meal planning and dietary advice.
Duration
1 to 2 hours per athlete
Materials Used (Provided by Nutriwin)
Online: Video conferencing software
In-person: Anthropometric assessment tools (see “Anthropometric Screenings” section)
Advantages
Personalization and adaptation to the athlete’s specific needs, considering:
Body composition goals (fat loss or muscle gain)
Training and competition load and periodization
Status as a starter or substitute
Recovery phase in case of injury
Medical conditions or food intolerances/allergies
Cultural and dietary preferences
Food Service
Meal Planning
What is it?
Planning team meals, including:Meals during training camps (e.g., peri-game/tournaments)Pre- or post-game lunch boxesPre- and/or post-training meals at the club
Advantages
Improved nutritional quality and food safetyBetter cost-benefit ratio for mealsProper balance of macronutrients, micronutrients, and fiber, presented in an appealing way
---------------
Food Service Management Support
What is it?
Meal monitoring and controlTraining sessionsSatisfaction surveys for athletes and staff
Advantages
Continuous improvement of food service operationsBetter adaptation to the club’s needs
Supplementation
Supplementation Plans
What is it?
A supplementation plan may include ergogenic supplements (directly enhancing performance) as well as supplements aimed at promoting overall health and addressing deficiencies identified in medical tests.
Types of Plans
Peri-Training – Supplements taken before, during, and after training sessions.
Peri-Game – Supplements taken before (including the day before), during, and after a game.
Advantages
Scientifically valid guidance for athletes who choose to use supplements to enhance performance, recovery, and overall health.
Cost efficiency – Investing only in supplements that are proven to be effective.
Reduced risk of inadvertent doping through careful supplement selection.
Others
Bootcamps
What is it?
Participation in and/or organization of events that include weight/body composition screenings, workshops, catering adapted to nutritional needs, etc.
---------------
Team Support During Training Camps
What is it?
Nutritional support for teams during training camps away from home. The goal is to provide better control and monitoring of athletes' nutrition during meals and competitions (peri-game nutrition and supplementation), as well as offering informal and practical intervention directly at the location.
---------------
Nutritional Knowledge Assessment
What is it?
Use of questionnaires tailored to the target population to assess knowledge before and/or after nutritional interventions.
---------------
Food Intake Assessment
What is it?
Collection (via food diaries) and processing of information related to athletes' food intake (e.g., calories, macronutrients, and micronutrients) using nutrition software. The goal is to identify dietary habits that deviate from recommended guidelines and to get an overall "snapshot" of the team's eating habits, allowing for more effective collective and individualized interventions.
---------------
Female Athlete Triad / RED-S Risk Assessment
What is it?
Application and interpretation of a validated questionnaire (LEAF-Q) to identify athletes at higher risk of health issues caused by inadequate energy intake.
